Parent Pact: Smartphones and Digital Wellbeing

Helping families build healthier, safer relationships with smartphones and online spaces.

Many families are talking about when children should have smartphones and how to keep screen time healthy. Agreeing shared expectations with other parents can make those conversations easier.

What a parent pact is

A parent pact is an informal agreement between families — often in the same class or school — to delay smartphones or social media, or to follow similar rules. When children's friends follow the same approach, there is less pressure to be the odd one out.

Healthy habits at home

  • Keep phones out of bedrooms overnight
  • Agree screen-free times such as meals and homework
  • Talk openly about online safety and who to tell if something worries them
  • Model the habits you would like your child to follow

Protecting study time

Fewer notifications mean better concentration. Putting the phone in another room during homework and revision is one of the simplest ways to improve focus.
