GCSE success comes from studying smarter, not just longer. These five strategies help students remember more and perform better under exam conditions.
The five strategies
- Make a realistic revision timetable that covers every subject
- Use active recall — test yourself with flashcards and blank-page summaries instead of rereading
- Space your revision so topics are revisited over several weeks
- Practise past exam questions under timed conditions
- Review mistakes, note why they happened and revisit those topics
Look after yourself too
Sleep, exercise and short breaks help the brain consolidate what you learn. A tired student remembers less, however many hours they put in.
Know your exam board
Specifications and question styles differ between AQA, Edexcel and OCR. Checking the right specification and mark schemes keeps revision focused on what will actually be assessed.
